Self Promotion: What do you think?

I was at one of my favorite networking meetings this morning (American Business Women's Association, River City Express Chapter, whew, that's a mouth full!).  At the end of the meeting, the group recognized and gave awards to a couple of our outstanding women for their contributions to the group, their leadership in their businesses and in the community...so I am just tickled pink for Tena Krouse and Sandra Sylvester! 

There was something else at this meeting I found interesting.  The speaker made a comment that women dislike when other women self promote or talk about their successes.  Now here's my question to you: what do you think when other women 'self-promote', or tell others about their successes?    And do you think women's attitudes about their success helps or hinders them?  I really want to know!  Email me or post a comment here, please!

Spring is in the air

Can you smell it?  Spring!  I think if tickled pink had an aroma it would smell just like spring:  fresh and earthy, with hints of new possibilities thrown in.  We spent some time at a neighborhood Easter Egg Hunt today.  I was tickled pink to see all of those little faces running around in search of 'hidden' treasures.  I say 'hidden' because for the majority of the age groups, the eggs are pretty much in plain sight so that everyone can find some goodies.  I think that's true in the rest of life, too...most of the 'hidden' treasures are right there for us to see and appreciate everyday.  And there's enough goodies for everyone.

Exhausted

I am tickled pink to be completely, thoroughly, bone achingly exhausted.  I know, you're thinking "WHAT? That must be a typo.  She must think she's on another blog!"  Nope, no typo.  I worked on the Women Build Habitat for Humanity house today (I wrote about it a little while back).  We put the sub floor in.  Do you know how heavy those big sheets of OSB are?  (OSB is that plywood that looks like its made of chewed up wood pieces pressed together with resin which is what makes it heavy.)  But it was a completely beautiful day, clear sky, 60 + degrees.  Met some really great women, learned how to operate a chop saw, got some exercise and all for a really great cause!  I can't remember the last time, I felt this tired and this great all at the same time, can you?

Time to just be

Here's a great Tickled Pink shared with us from MB Lufkin in New Hampshire:

"What a spectacular week! I’m tickled pink that I allowed myself the luxury of a week’s vacation without my husband or son. While I love both of them, having some alone time has been spectacular. It’s given me a chance to regroup, refocus and re-energize for the next adventure of my life. It’s also given me a chance to reconnect with old friends…I had lunch with a different friend each day this week and had chances to talk with long-distance friends on the phone. Unfortunately, in the hustle and bustle of laundry, groceries, cooking, working, soccer…etc., those connections are the first to go. This is the first time I’ve taken time to just be, without expectations or deadlines or meetings. It feels wonderful. And the Universe responded…I picked up my Simple Abundance book today (given to me by one of those long-distance friends who I miss terribly) and the passage I turned to was all about reconnecting with yourself, your soul and your friends. It was just the confirmation I needed to know that this week I’m being exactly who I’m supposed to be.

Global Girl

I was tickled pink today to attend a symposium called Global Girl, Intimate Leader.  It featured three awesome speakers and topics all related to being and raising strong, thoughtful women today.  It was wonderful to be surrounded by about 300 like minded parents (mostly moms) and educators as the speakers discussed a wide array of issues related to leadership, change, psychology, learning and sexuality.  One of the speakers, Dr. Meg Wheatley (author of Finding Our Way: Leadership for an Uncertain Time and Leadership and The New Science) used a phrase I just loved:  She said you have to walk out of some situations to be able to walk on to bigger, better things.  Walk out to walk on.  So I've been thinking:  What do I need to walk out of to walk on?  What about you?

Luncheon Pink

As promised, I'm sharing other's tickled pink moments.  This one from Aunt Jan (OK, not my Aunt but I can't help calling her that!) 

"Today, I, along with 23 other folks from St. Marks Methodist Church, attended the Lenten Service and Luncheon at St. Paul's Church downtown. What a wonderful experience! A delightful lunch prepared and served by volunteers and then a spirited uplifting message by Lance Watson (you may have caught his Sunday morning sermon on TV). It is my understanding that this continues daily throughout the two week Lenten season.  Not only were we 'tickled pink' to be there, but there was also a large number of business men and women who chose to spend their lunch hour enjoying the food and fellowship. Check it out . You will be "tickled pink!" "

Tickled Pink and Blue?

My cousin called me last night.  She lives in NJ and is 10 years younger than I am, so while I love her dearly, we don't talk very often.  I was pretty sure what she was calling about.  She got married last April and you know what comes after that.  I am completely tickled pink that she's pregnant.  As she said, "I can't say I'm having a baby...because I'm having two!"  Yep, twins.  She's thrilled and nervous.  She said, "I'm not sure I know how to take care of one baby, how will I take care of two?"  But she once she has them, she won't know any different.  I think we all tend to worry about unexpected events like this one and then find out, we always had the answer right there inside of us.  It just takes the unexpected to bring it out.  So here's to being tickled pink and maybe tickled blue too!

Spreading the Pink!

I am completely tickled pink about the news I have to share today!  A few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to hear a teleconference by motivational speaker Deb Copeland, author of Attitude Therapy (www.debcopeland.com).  I just loved what she had to say and I thought she would appreciate GetTickledPink so I sent her the link.  She immediately emailed me that she LOVED IT and wanted to help out.  So she has given me 10 copies of her book to share with you!  Here's the catch:  I'm going to give the books to the next 10 people who either a) send me their own tickled pink to share or b) subscribe to Tickled Pink by email or by RSS feed (see the links on the upper right hand side of the page.)  So help me spread the Pink!

Email may be old school, but I still think it's cool

Have you heard?  Email is old school, passe, the pony express of the 21st century.  That's according to a recent article I read.  But today, email brought me a great tickled pink moment.  I read an article in PINK magazine recently (which I also love so check it out if you have the chance) by a favorite author of mine, Lisa Earle McLeod.  I took just a couple of minutes to email a letter to the magazine's editor to say how tickled pink I was to see Ms. McLeod as a contributor to their magazine.  (She wrote a book called Forget Perfect that had a huge impact on me, check it out at www.forgetperfect.com/books/forgetperfect.htm) 

Maybe an hour later, I got an email from Ms. McLeod herself saying that the editor had forwarded my email to her and she was just tickled pink (my words not hers, but I think she'd be OK with the paraphrasing) that her book had made a difference to me.  Now, how cool is that?  An email from an author I've never met and we both made each other's day, all thanks to the powerful network that is email.  2-4-6-8, who do you appreciate?  Email them today and tell them!

Power of a network

Sometimes I bite off more than I can chew.  I raise my hand, when I should sit on it.  I say "Sure" when I should say "Nope".  This is kind of one of those time.  I agreed to coordinate the volunteers for a Women Build for Habitat for Humanity during the month of March, Women's History Month.  What this means is that I am currently recruiting oh, about 400 people to help build a house for a single mom and her five children.  And I am completely tickled pink by the response I'm getting from my friends and contacts.  It is amazing to see the power of network kick in for a really great cause.  Interested in helping?  There's lots of ways for you to get involved:

TO VOLUTEER AS A BUILDER (We will be doing a blitz build which means we will build for two weeks Tuesday through Saturday and will need 25 volunteers a day. The third week we will need 15 volunteers a day from Tuesday through Saturday.)
